CE INFORMATION CORRECTION

Due to a change in SC Code of Laws, Limited Lines Surety licensees do not have to take CE courses anymore. Therefore, Bail Agents that have these licenses are not required to take the 24 hour P&C insurance continuing education courses. If you have a multi-line producers license you must continue the 24 hour CE courses. Bail Agents are still required to take the 6 hour CE courses every year.

The record keeping fee payable to Prometric and the producers’ $25 renewal fee are due by May 1, 2010, not November 1, 2010 as reported before. Every licensed producer must pay both fees by May 1, 2010. The renewal fee is payable on the DOI website by electronic payment. Prometric must be paid directly. In addition, the 40 hour insurance pre-licensing course is not required, but you still have to take the 40 hour test to be a license surety bondsman in SC. Please call the SC DOI if you have any questions. (803) 737-6160 See the 2009 Bulletin below

 OUR BILL IS LAW!!!!

Hello Everyone,

Just in case you did not know, our new bonding bill was passed by a override vote from the House and Senate. Our esteemed President wanted me to let everyone know just in case we have not called you already. I'm sure everyone know by now. You may see the bill on the State House Website.  Click on the Quick search link and put in 577 as the bill number. (S577) This has been a long time coming.

We worked hard to get this bill passed and we should be proud of it. I want to make special mention of congratulations and thank you to our Legislative Chair Bryan Cavanaugh and our Lobbyist Darryl Campbell - Darryl Ogburn. They worked hard in front and behind the scenes to get it passed. Also, a special Thank you to Regina Crawford, Frank Richardson and our President Mike Curlee. We drove many times to Columbia to meet with different officials such as the Sheriff's association, the Clerk of Courts association and the Solicitor's association. The price of gas was well worth it, now!!! If I failed to mention your name, please charge to my head and not my heart. We thank everyone that help, especially those that called their Senator's and Representatives to ask for their support.

Please review the law, it gives us new rights. I'm sure we will see different interpretations, but hopefully our friends with court administration will bring formality to the new process very soon. From my understanding, the law goes into effect immediately. Cases with bench warrants already issued is not grandfathered in. Just like everything else, it's up for interpretation. Although, I think it's very clear. Call your attorney.

If you have any questions, the officers and our Legislative chair are available here.

Ricky J. Hill
