Hello Everyone,
Just in case you did not know, our new bonding bill was passed by a
override vote from the House and Senate. Our esteemed President wanted
me to let everyone know just in case we have not called you already. I'm
sure everyone know by now. You may see the bill on the
State House Website. Click on the Quick search link and put in
577 as the bill number. (S577) This has been a long time coming.

The SC Dept. of Insurance
has informed the SCBAA that due to a change in SC Code of Laws, Bail
Bond licenses is now a limited lines authority. Therefore, Bail Agents
are not required to take the 24 hour P/C insurance continuing education
courses anymore. In addition, the 40 hour insurance pre-licensing course
is not required, but you still have to take the 40 hour test to be a
license surety bondsman in SC. Please call the SC DOI if you have any
questions. (803) 737-6160
"Update" The SC DOI is
trying to get a refund for all bail agents that has paid the fee. Please
call Willie Seawright @ 803-737-6099 to report how much was paid.
Due to changes in the SC
Code of Laws, Bail Agents do not have to pay Thomas Prometric the Bi
Annual record keeping fee. According to the SC DOI, there will be no
refunds if paid. Remember, if you sell any other lines of insurance you
have to still pay the record keeping fee. Please call the SC DOI to
confirm your status. |
